Afikim is a nonprofit organization, established in 2007, that strives to provide children at-risk in Israel, and their parents, with tools to help them escape the cycle of poverty, first and foremost through education. Afikim’s unique programs include a comprehensive and holistic approach that helps not only the child, but his family as well.
A growing number of Israel’s children live in extreme poverty, facing the bitter challenges of hunger, want, and insecurity. Statistically, their chances for a better future are slim.
Afikim offers a unique, two-pronged program that works with both disadvantaged children and their parents on a long-term basis, providing the tools they need to break out of the cycle of poverty.
Afikim’s unique programs include a comprehensive and holistic approach that helps not only the child, but the entire family.
RUN4AFIKIM is the longest organized charity relay run in the world. Every year, dozens of athletes from Israel and around the world participate in a three-day relay race from Jerusalem to Eilat.
Every athlete gets sponsored in order to participate in the race and all donations are used to further Afikim’s programs. The route passes through some of Israel’s most remote and beautiful sites. During the run, the participants meet with groups of Afikim children.
Afikim was established with the generous assistance of the Hanel Foundation, in memory of the wonderful couple Shamai (Shimko) and Tova (Giselle) Hanel, OBM, from Paris, France
